Marine engineers that actually reads the details of technology in my industry; I’ve seen a lot of these posts and they’re really misleading lol, but you gotta have a flashy headline I guess. They still run the engine. The kites, or in some cases, inflatable sails, just reduce the engine load and can cut fuel consumption down by as much as 30% in ideal conditions for the same speed of travel.
